Overview

Eid-ul-Adha takes place during the 10th, 11th, and 12th of Zulhijjah. Eid-ul-Adha is one of the only two Islamic Holidays.

Sunnah on the Day of Eid

The following acts are sunnah on the day of Eid-ul-Adha:

  • To wake up early in the morning.
  • To clean one's teeth with a miswak or brush
  • To have a bath.
  • To put on one's best available clothes.
  • To use perfume.
  • Not to eat before the Eid prayer
  • To recite the Takbir of Tashriq in a loud voice while going to the Eid prayer.

  • Eid Salat

The Salat of Eid is performed differently from any other salah. The Imam will begin the salat without adhan or iqamah. He will be gin the salat by saying the Takbir-of-Tahrimah. After a slight pause (in which you should read the Thanna') the Imam will say Takbir three times. The first two times he says Takbir you should bring your hands up, and once you say Takbir you should bring them down and leave them by your sides. The thrid time he says Takbir you should put your hands on your navel. After this the Imam will perform the rest of the Salah normally.
In the second rak'at the Imam will read the Qur'an first and before ruku' he will say the Takbir three times. In every one of these Takbirs you will bring your hands up and then lower them. After these Takbirs have been completed the Imam will say the Takbir to go into ruku' and the rest of the Salat will continue normally.

    Qurbani

    • Qurbani is only permissible during the three days of Eid, namely the 10th, 11th, and 12th of the month of Zul Hijjah.
    • It is preferable to perform it on the first day of Eid-ul-Adha
    • No Qurbani is allowed before the Eid prayer, except in small villages where the Eid prayer is not performed.
    • Every adult Muslim, male or female, who owns 613.35 grams of silver or its equivalent in money, personal ornaments, stocks, or any other form of wealth which is surplus to his/her basic needs is obligated to perform Qurbani.
    • Every adult member of a household who themselves owns the above amount must perform Qurbani separately.
    • There is no alternate for Qurbani, just as it is not permissible to perform salah instead of fasting in the month of Ramadan, so too is Qurbani an independent form of worship whose obligation cannot be discharged by spending it's equivalent amount in charity.
    • Only eligible animals are permissible for Qurbani.
